Who is responsible for your data
BlessMyBill is operated by Fidelis Ozuawala & Co LTD, Nigeria, which controls the personal data described here. We handle it in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Contact us about privacy at [email protected].
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email, phone number and password (stored scrambled), or the basic profile Google or Apple shares when you sign in with them.
- Profile: your profile picture, up to three more photos, and your bio.
- Bills: titles, categories, amounts and voice notes you post.
- Bank details (Billers): your bank, account number and the account name the bank returns.
- Identity checks: a selfie and/or your BVN, if we ask you to confirm who you are before a withdrawal.
- Payments: Blessing Pack purchases, blessings given and received, and withdrawals. Card details are entered with our payment providers; we never see or store your full card number.
- Messages: private chats and photos you send in them, and anything you send through our contact or report forms.
- Technical data: your IP address, device and browser type, and log records, which we use to keep the service secure and prevent fraud.
- Early access: your name, email and whether you want to bless or be blessed.
Who can see what
- Blessers can see a Biller's first name, photos, bio, bills and voice notes. They never see a Biller's bank details, phone number, email or BVN.
- Billers can see the name and photo of a Blesser who blessed them, unless the Blesser chose to be anonymous.
- Private chats are visible only to the two people in them, and to our safety team when a chat is reported or we investigate fraud.
Why we use it
- To run your account and show bills to Blessers (to carry out our agreement with you).
- To process payments, blessings and withdrawals, and keep accurate records (our agreement with you, and legal duties).
- To check identities, prevent fraud and keep users safe (our legitimate interest, and legal duties).
- To send you account emails such as receipts, blessing alerts and security notices.
- To send you news about BlessMyBill, only if you agree; you can unsubscribe any time.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data. We share only what is needed with:
- Payment providers (Paystack, NowPayments, DodoPayments) to take payments and pay withdrawals.
- Identity check providers, when an identity check is needed.
- Our email provider (Amazon Web Services) to send emails, and our hosting provider to run the service.
- Google or Apple, only to sign you in when you choose them.
- Police, regulators or courts, when the law requires it or to prevent fraud or harm.
Some of these providers process data outside Nigeria. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act allows.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. Financial records are kept for as long as the law requires, usually up to six years. Voice notes of bills that have expired for good may be deleted earlier. When you close your account, we delete or anonymise the rest within a reasonable time, unless we must keep it for legal reasons or an open investigation.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your data, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent you gave. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Cookies and security
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in, protect forms and remember preferences. We protect your data with encrypted connections, scrambled passwords and limited staff access, but no system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private.
Children
BlessMyBill is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has an account, please report it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect.
